Hope For Today
Daily Encouragement for a Healing Heart from the Word of God
Deep pain and brokenness have a way of making Bible study difficult. To help bridge the gap and re-ignite our hunger for the Word of God, we’ve put together a daily devotional designed to help us all lean into God as we heal. May we seek Him daily!
Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life. Psalms 143:8 (NIV)
- Hope For Today
 November 4 - Psalms 7:17
I will thank the Lord because He is just; I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.
As we spend this month of November intentionally offering thanks-giving to our Lord, let's spend a day focusing on, and thanking Him for one of His great attributes: Our Lord is just! In other words, He always (ALWAYS) behaves according to what is morally right. I am reminded of a lyric from a wonderful worship song, "To the cross I look, to the cross I cling. Of its suffering I do drink. Of its work I do sing. For on it my Savior, both bruised and crushed, showed that God is love, and God is just." The cross – God's ultimate act of justice. I am so thankful to serve a God who doesn't operate outside of a defined system. His work is not arbitrary. He has made Himself and His ways known to us, and they are right! He is a holy God. Completely set apart from sin. We, on the other hand, are sinners. We had no hope of ever being able to reconcile ourselves to Him. No hope of ever being able to have a relationship with Him. But because of His great love He made a way. A way that was right. A way that was just! He didn't turn away, look the other way, ignore our sin, or excuse it. Instead, He offered Himself and covered that sin with the precious, perfect blood of Jesus Christ. He took our punishment, and died in our place. It was an unimaginable sacrifice. One we didn't deserve! And that's the thing we often get wrong in our feeble attempts at justice. Justice isn't about what we deserve, it's about what is right. The Bible tells us that there is no one among us who is righteous, not even one. But God, He IS righteous. So, friends, let's commit today to leaving justice to Him. We don't need to police the world and decide who deserves grace and who deserves wrath. Our just God will take care of that. What we should do is ask Him to help us live justly, (righteously) not in judgement of others, but in honest pursuit of seeing His love reach every man, woman, boy, and girl on this planet! So let's lift our voices together and thank Him! Let's sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High! Let's thank Him for His justice. Let's thank Him for the cross, and, as the song says, allow it to beckon us and draw us gently to our knees. Let's ask Him to fill us daily with His Spirit so that we will love mercy, live justly, and walk humbly with our God! Let's be "lost for words, so lost in love, sweetly broken, wholly surrendered!"
