Hope For Today
Daily Encouragement for a Healing Heart from the Word of God
Deep pain and brokenness have a way of making Bible study difficult. To help bridge the gap and re-ignite our hunger for the Word of God, we’ve put together a daily devotional designed to help us all lean into God as we heal. May we seek Him daily!
Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life. Psalms 143:8 (NIV)
- Hope For Today
December 22 - Psalms 2:7
The King proclaims the Lord's decree: "The Lord said to Me, 'You are My Son. Today I have become Your Father."
PROPHECY The Father would claim the Messiah as His Own Son. The Messiah would be the Son of God. FULFILLMENTMatthew 3:16-17- After His baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on Him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my dearly loved Son who brings me great joy."
Yesterday we talked about how the Holy Spirit descending on Jesus at His baptism fulfilled a prophecy about the coming Messiah. What’s awesome about the baptism of Jesus, though, is that it accomplished a lot more than the fulfillment of one obscure Old Testament prophesy! Jesus Christ was the Son of God. The Holy Scriptures had declared that the Father Himself would claim the Messiah as His own Son, and as the voice from heaven spoke, there was no room left for doubt. This man was the dearly loved Son of the Lord God Almighty, and He brought great joy to His Father! But, just in case there’s still an inkling of doubt, the Father audibly claimed His Son again during the transfiguration.Matthew 17:5-6 – But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to Him." The disciples were terrified and fell face down on the ground.
Y’all, Jesus was the dearly loved Son of His Heavenly Father. A source of great joy to Almighty God! Again, and again throughout His time here on earth Jesus spoke of their relationship. Their unity. Their love. Jesus brought great delight to His Father, and yet the Father was willing to sacrifice His dearly loved Son for us, His dearly loved daughters. May we praise Him forever for this gift, too wonderful for words!
