Hope For Today

Daily Encouragement for a Healing Heart from the Word of God

Deep pain and brokenness have a way of making Bible study difficult. To help bridge the gap and re-ignite our hunger for the Word of God, we’ve put together a daily devotional designed to help us all lean into God as we heal. May we seek Him daily!

Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I entrust my life. Psalms 143:8 (NIV)

Hope For Today

June 7 - 1 Peter 2:24-25

He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wounds you are healed. Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls.

Do you feel like you're dead to sin?  If I'm honest... like, really deep down honest, then I'd have to say, no. I don't feel like I'm dead to sin.  I still feel like sin has a hold on me. Despite the fact that the victories grow more and more frequent, and the failures further and further between, I'm still a sinner. But am I? Are we?  When we read the Bible, we see over and over again the assurance that Jesus secured the victory once for all.  We are dead to sin, and alive in Christ.  It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  We have no obligation to do what our sinful nature requires. And so on. So, which is it?  We still sin every day, but the Bible says we're dead to sin.  How can both be true? The answer is, all this is true because of one simple thing: Christ personally carried our sins (Past ones. Present ones. Future ones. All of them.) in His body on the cross.  They've all been covered in His precious blood. Every. Last. One. My friends, there is no power in a sin that has been forgiven!  We are free of it indeed, so, let's start living for what is right!  If our sins have lost the power to condemn us, then there is no need to get stuck in the cycle of shame that keeps us stuck in that sin.  No longer are we like sheep who wander without a shepherd!  We've been found!  Our good Shepherd will guard our souls with His very life.  He already gave it to protect us!  For goodness sake, let's realize what that means!  He holds us secure! We're free from every danger that sin threatens.  It is finished! We are His, and by His wounds we are healed!
