- Hope For Today
August 15 - 1 Timothy 4:1-10
Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons. These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead... Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly. “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it. This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.
Where is our hope? Is it in people? Is it in religion? Is it in our family? Is it in the government? Where is it? If it is in anything at all other than the living God we are going to be severely disappointed! We've been plainly warned that there are those who will turn away from Truth and follow deceptive spirits. But deception is tricky. It doesn't often feel false. If we've placed our hope in anything other than our Savior, we're going to fall for it. We're going to buy into the lies and be blinded to the hypocrisy. The spiritually dead are going to lead us right into the teachings that come from the demons! So let's be prepared and on guard. Let's train ourselves in godliness! Let's work hard and continue to struggle for the hope we've placed securely in the living God! Let's not be fooled into wasting our time arguing with those who have chosen godless ideas. They are in the hands of the Savior. Let's leave them there and focus in hard on the hope we have as in Him!
