January 8 – Romans 8:35-39
Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean He no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For Your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord!
What a promise am I right? These verses make me want to find a crowded street somewhere and shout them from a rooftop! What power and inspiration there is in the words! My eyes well up with tears and shivers run down my spine as I read them over and over again. Overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who LOVED us!
Do you ever have days (or months, or years) when you feel unloved or even unlovable? Does the pain you have suffered at the hands of people who should have loved you make you question the very possibility that real love even exists? Does the calamity and trouble of life drag you down into the trap of self pity? Have you ever allowed that fear and doubt to sink into the deepest depths of your soul and cause you to wonder if even God could really love you? I have. My friend, if this is you, then allow the truth in these verses to penetrate that wall of lies around your heart. Read them again and again until you feel the stirring within – the hope that comes when we believe the promises of God.
The Creator – the One who designed and crafted every intricate detail in the world around us – the High King of Heaven, who rules over the sky above and the earth below – the Commander of the vast armies of Heaven’s Angels LOVES YOU!
He loves you so much that He has promised there is absolutely nothing in all of creation that can come between Him and His deep and abiding love for you. Not death, not life, not angels, not demons, not fear, not worries, not the past, present, or future, no power in the sky or on the earth, not even the powers of hell can come between The Great I AM and the love He has for YOU! Believe it my friend, and let it change you.
