6 Steps to Redeem the Holidays from the Fear of the Past

Table of Contents

Several months ago I had the honor of being asked to make a guest appearance over at Faith Beyond Fear. Of course, I was eager to accept, and when we decided on a publication date of last week I realized it would fall right in the middle of our Redeeming Thanksgiving series. So, I decided to tie what I wrote into that topic.

If you’ve never checked out the Faith Beyond Fear website, I highly recommend you spend a little time over there. Not only to read this post, but the wealth of others as well. There are so many wonderful articles for anyone who struggles to allow their faith in Christ to overcome the fears of this life.

More than a dozen contributing writers share testimonies, devotionals, and how-tos all designed to help you move beyond fear to a place of confident faith in the One who holds our future.

Here is a short snippet of what I wrote and a link to go read the rest of it. And come back next week as we continue with our own Redeeming Thanksgiving Series.

If Your instructions hadn’t sustained me with joy, I would have died in misery. I will never forget Your commandments, for by them You give me life. Psalms 119:92-93

6 Steps to Redeem the Holidays from Fear of the Past

If I had to guess (simply based on the pins that fill my Pinterest feed around mid-October) I’d say I’m far from alone in finding the holiday season a potentially difficult time. For too many of us, the holidays trigger terrible memories of years past. Personally, they mark the anniversaries of terrible days on which I discovered heart-breaking details about my husband’s sexual addiction and repeated infidelities. For many of us, time that should have overflowed with love, thankfulness, and rejoicing in the work of God is tainted by neglect, abuse, betrayal, and unfulfilled hopes. As the days on the calendar tick through September and into October, our hearts quicken with the anticipation of repeated heartache.  What we need is some redemption!

Turning to the Redeemer

So, how are we supposed to move from a place of dread and fear to a place of faith and joy this holiday season? I’m thrilled to tell you, God has spent the last few years teaching me how to do just that. He’s given me great victory, and I’m excited to share some of it with you today…

I am a wife, mother, and passionate follower of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. After the realities of my husband's sexual addiction and infidelities finally came to a head, I began blogging about our journey to healing. God has worked many miracles in our life and marriage since then, and grown a ministry committed to helping others find the healing in Christ that changed our story forever!

Verse of the Day
Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come to Him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to Him. For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods... Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker, for He is our God. Psalms 95:1-7
