This Day in History: 0000-12-24

December 24 – Isaiah 35:5-6

And when He comes, He will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf. The lame will leap like a dear, and those who cannot speak will sing for joy!

PROPHECY

The Messiah would perform many miracles including giving sight to the blind, causing the deaf to hear, the lame to walk, and the mute to speak.

FULFILLMENT

Matthew 11:4-5 – Jesus told them, “Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen – the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.”

You can read in much more detail about all the miracles Jesus performed during His earthly ministry in each of the four Gospels. Many who were sick were healed and those who were broken were restored to wholeness. Even the religious leaders who desperately wanted to invalidate Jesus couldn’t deny that his miracles were noteworthy. They searched for any explanation other than the one that was true. In order to deny that He was the Messiah they even went as far as to call Him a messenger of Satan!

The question we have to ask ourselves is, are we guilty of the same thing? The mighty miracles of Christ have not ceased. He is still healing the sick, and restoring the broken. He is still setting captives free. Do we recognize those works and give Him the glory? Our own salvation alone is evidence to His Lordship. Have we praised Him for it today? May we never be guilty of attributing to any other the work of our Savior! As His dearly loved children, may we give Him all our praise!
