December 1 –  John 4:25-26

The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming – the One who is called the Christ. When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”
Then Jesus told her, “I AM the Messiah!”

It’s December, and that means Christmas is coming! I think this season presents us with a wonderful opportunity to spend some time looking at what the Bible has to tell us about the promised Messiah. The first coming of Christ was not something that happened out of nowhere. The Jewish people knew it was coming! God had been promising His Savior since the very beginning, and Jesus was the fulfillment of each and every Messianic prophecy. Just as the woman at the well so confidently believed, He didn’t just come – He brought with Him understanding.

Through the Word of God, the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ has explained everything to us. So, we’re going to spend most of the month of December examining the prophecies of the Bible about the coming Messiah, and how Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of each one.

As we do this, may we remember there are still many more prophesies assuring us He is coming again. The fact that Jesus came (just as the Scriptures said He would) the first time gives us reason to believe (and to set our hopes securely on the promise that) He will return. May our hope be renewed and may we live continually in eager anticipation of that glorious day!

In the meantime, may we celebrate together another sacred day when our Lord and Savior left the glory of heaven and gave up all of His divine privilege to take on flesh. The day when the Creator of the universe confined Himself and all of His glory into the body of a tiny human baby. Let’s celebrate that day when the great “I AM” lay in the lowly manger – the day Messiah came!
