November 23 – Psalms 95:1-7

Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come to Him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to Him. For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods. He holds in His hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains. The sea belongs to Him, for He made it. His hands formed the dry land, too. Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker, for He is our God. We are the people He watches over, the flock under His care.

Let’s spend some time together right now just thinking about the vastness and the magnitude of all that our God created.

If we go out to the heavens, we find an immeasurable expanse of space, and stars, and planets, and moons, and who knows what else, all held together in perfect synchronicity. No matter how much we learn about it, the surface of what there is to know has barely been scratched, yet He made it all with a few spoken words. At the same time, if we examine creation on a microscopic level, we find no less complexity.

Despite the perfection of its engineering, creation is also lovely. God didn’t just make a system that works, but one that is to be enjoyed. He created a world meant to draw us to Him. Imagine sitting on a porch in the middle of a lovely summer rain and feeling the rumble of the thunder from deep within or the thrill of the lightning flashes. Think of the power of the wind as it sweeps across the earth. Or, imagine watching a sunrise beyond the sea from your perch on a sandy beach, or the sunset across the scope of a fertile plain. Imagine a sparkling snowfall in the boughs of an alpine forest, or the vibrant fall leaves below from the overlook of a mountain cliff. Each of these bring both beauty and function and they were all created and are still held together by the power of our Sovereign Lord!

And yet, He still chose to know each of us personally. He still chose to make a way for me and for you to be able to come to Him! It is unimaginable. We are so unworthy of the attention of One so great! We don’t deserve the tender care of One so magnificent. Still, he watches over us like a shepherd and invites us into intimate relationship with Him. Let us sing out our praises to Him every day of our lives for this gift too awesome for words!
