November 18 – Psalms 111

Praise the Lord! I will thank the Lord with all my heart as I meet with His godly people. How amazing are the deeds of the Lord! All who delight in Him should ponder them. Everything He does reveals His glory and majesty. His righteousness never fails. He causes us to remember His wonderful works. How gracious and merciful is our Lord! He gives food to those who fear Him; He always remembers His covenant. He has shown His great power to His people by giving them the lands of other nations. All He does is just and good, and all His commandments are trustworthy. They are forever true, to be obeyed faithfully and with integrity. He has paid a full ransom for His people. He has guaranteed His covenant with them forever. What a holy, awe-inspiring name He has! Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey His commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise Him forever!

Do you want to be wise? Proverbs 8:11 says that wisdom is better than jewels and that anything we desire can’t compare, so I think that desiring understanding is a noble goal. So where do we start in our quest for wisdom? The Bible tells us it starts with fear of the Lord.

Do we fear our great God? I’m not talking about being afraid of Him, (although that’s certainly part of it) but about having an understanding of His majesty and splendor that penetrates down into our souls and silences anything less than complete awe.

As we gather together with other believers, are we making a practice of giving to Him our corporate adoration? If that’s not a part of your regular worship, I would challenge you to meditate upon this passage and ask God if that is something you should actively try to correct.

Whether it be through song, or a dedicated prayer time, the body of Christ should be thanking the Lord with all our hearts as we meet together as God’s holy people. We should be recounting together His amazing deeds, and pondering our answered prayers. We should be remembering together His wonderful works in order that His glory and majesty might be revealed to us. We should be thanking Him for His justice, His provision, His goodness, and His faithful righteousness. As we stand together in awe of Him, we should be inspired to a life of integrity and obedience, trusting Him in all circumstances.

Let’s start today and stand together as His church, proclaiming with one voice, “What a holy, awe-inspiring name He has! For He has paid our ransom and guaranteed His covenant with us forever! Praise Him forever!”
