This Day in History: 0000-11-14

November 14 – Daniel 2:20-23 & Daniel 6:10

He said, “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for He has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings.
He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars. He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though He is surrounded by light.
I thank and praise You, God of my ancestors, for You have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of You and revealed to us what the king demanded.”

But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its window open toward Jerusalem.
He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.

I love Daniel, don’t you? What a wonderful example of faith and courage! Again, and again he chose to do what was right even when the cost would be great. On top of that, he lived a life of gratitude. God worked many miracles at Daniel’s request and Daniel never shied away from publicly praising His Lord for all He had done.  He was consistently faithful to give all the glory to God alone.

Can we say the same? Are we following the example of Daniel? Can others notice the difference between us and the rest of the world? If a law were to suddenly pass making it illegal to pray to our God, would the people who know us expect us to continue praying anyway? Would they expect us to continue thanking and praising God? I find that question very challenging!

We are children of the High Kind of Heaven! Everything here is just temporary. Let’s refuse to get caught up in the trials of this world and live with hearts full of gratitude to the One who set us free!
