November 3 – Romans 7:21–8:2
I have discovered this principle in life – that when I want to do what is right, I inevitable do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank GOD! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin. So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to Him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
This is one of my favorite passages in the whole Bible! What victory! “THANKS BE TO GOD! THE ANSWER IS IN JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD!!!!!”
Oh, friends, have you gotten bogged down in the defeat of sin? Has its grip overwhelmed you and discouraged you and caused you to lose focus and therefore lose hope? I have wonderful news! There is NO CONDEMNATION for those who belong to Christ Jesus! If you have accepted Him as your Savior, then you have been set free from the power of sin that leads to death!
What incredible victory there is for those who belong to Him! Even when we get caught up in a cycle of wanting to do right, and feeling powerless to do it, we are still free from the power of sin!
So how do we LIVE in that truth? I believe the answer is pretty simple: we live in freedom by living thankful!
If we stay focused on what God has done for us – focused on our freedom – surely it will create in us an overwhelming sense of gratitude! Our hearts will cry out every day, every moment, “Thanks be to GOD!”
As we praise Him for our freedom, we will find the power to live there – belonging to Him forever!
