This Day in History: 0000-11-02
November 2 – Matthew 15:35-36
So Jesus told all the people to sit down on the ground. Then He took the seven loaves and the fish, thanked God for them, and broke them into pieces. He gave them to the disciples, who distributed the food to the crowd.
I believe there is so much we can learn from our Lord in this short little passage. He has just finished teaching a crowd of over 4,000. They’re hungry, but there isn’t enough food to feed them. Jesus doesn’t bat an eye. He takes the little bit of food there is, and humbly thanks God for it. Then, He distributes the food to the disciples, who distribute it to the people, and with seven loaves of bread and one fish, thousands of people were able to eat their fill. And there was more food leftover than there was to start!
Are we living our lives with hearts like Christ? When life presents us with deficiencies, do we have the peace to trust that God will provide? When we see a need, do we try to fill it ourselves, or do we allow God to fill it? Do we offer thanks to Him for His provisions, even when, to our eyes, they don’t seem like enough?
I believe the key to the miracle lies in that last question. Before the food had been multiplied, Jesus thanked God for it. It’s not the only time either! When He fed the five thousand with 5 loaves and two fish, He did the same. As His disciples, let’s commit today to living with a heart of thanks-giving!
Let’s strive to be like our Lord! Let’s be intentional about thanking God for ALL of His provisions. Even when they don’t seem like enough, let’s thank Him anyhow. As we faithfully thank Him for what He has already done, and for what He has already provided, I believe He will multiply the blessing! So, let’s get ready to see some miracles.
Let’s get ready to see Him provide!
