October 28 – Jeremiah 9:23-24

This is what the Lord says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know Me and understand that I AM the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I the Lord have spoken.”

Yesterday we talked about God and His loving boundaries with His people. We saw how in the book of Jeremiah we can see His heart breaking as He is forced to administer the consequences of those broken boundaries. We resolved to be women after His own heart, both in our passionate pursuit of Him, and in the way we deal with those we love. Today, let’s look at a few more verses from Jeremiah 9 and try to understand a little more about the heart of our God, and the heart of mankind.

I think this passage nails down the source of Judah’s sin, and frankly, the cause of most all of our own sins as well – pride. It was at the root of the original sin, and it was the heart behind Satan’s fall. Pride is a vicious trap, making it imperative for us, as the dearly loved daughters of the Lord God Almighty to be on guard against it!

Isn’t it so easy to think, though, that the things we’ve achieved are our own? What a dangerous lie! Dear sisters, the Bible tells us that every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down to us from the Father! May we be hyper-vigilant to always give Him the credit! May we recognize that it is only through His power at work in us that we are ever able to accomplish anything of any true value! May we never live as the people of Judah did in that time, boasting in ourselves and forsaking the mighty saving power of our Lord! Turning instead to lesser things. Instead, may we proclaim with every breath that we are His dearly loved daughters – known by Him and able to know Him! Declaring His righteousness, justice, and unfailing love for all our days!
