This Day in History: 0000-10-18

October 18 – 2 Timothy 2:19-22

But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.”
In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.
Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts

Do you feel like a utensil made from gold or silver, or do you feel like a cheap, worthless utensil made from wood or clay?

Friends, don’t let the enemy deceive you. Though these verses may be used to tempt you to believe that you are “less than” we must be vigilant. We must interpret Scripture with other Scripture.

The Bible tells us that if God has called us to be His own, then He is the One who will equip us to stand firm in our faith. He gives us the tools we need to “turn away from evil,” and to “keep ourselves pure.” Therefore, if He has called us, then He knows us and He has equipped us for this task.

In other words, if we are His, then we are utensils He has made from gold or silver. We are valuable because as these verses say, the Lord knows those who are His!

So let’s press on to follow His leading. Let’s live in the victory He gives and keep ourselves pure by running from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Let’s pursue righteousness, faithfulness, peace, and love! Let’s surround ourselves with others who do the same. Let’s live in the reality that we are treasured by the Great God of Heaven, and let’s be ready for the Master to use us for every good work!
