October 1 – Isaiah 55:10-13

The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with My Word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I sent it. You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up. These events will bring great honor to the Lord’s name; they will be an everlasting sign of His power and love.”

I, for one, can certainly shout, “AMEN!” as I read these verses!  I know with absolute certainty that God’s word is life to a parched and dying soul because that’s exactly what the Bible has done in me!

In the darkest moments of my grief, when I didn’t even want to take my next breath, the Lord spoke truth into my heart using the words of Scripture and sustained me through those long, dark, and lonely months.  My sorrow turned to the joy of the Lord and my turmoil turned to the peace that passes all understanding.  Where once I looked out at the world and was moved only to weep more and see nothing but misery and death, suddenly all of creation seemed to burst with praise to the Lord.

Above all,  those around me have seen the signs of God’s power and love in the midst of the very events that seemed so bleak only months ago.  There is nothing like the Word of God, my friends!

Let’s allow these verses to inspire us to immerse ourselves in the study of God’s Word.  Let’s not just listen to it, though, let’s do what it says.  Let’s allow Scripture to wholly change us and line us up to God’s perfect will.  Let’s watch as the God of Heaven’s Armies uses it to accomplish all that He wants in our lives; as He prospers us through its life-giving message.  Let’s marvel at the joy and peace that will fill our hearts and quiet our troubled souls.  Let’s rejoice with all of creation in the Lord’s great name, and His everlasting power and love for us!
