September 25 – Isaiah 64:1-4

Oh, that You would burst from the heavens and come down! How the mountains would quake in Your presence!  As fire causes wood to burn, and water to boil, Your coming would make the nations tremble. Then Your enemies would learn the reason for Your fame!  When You came down long ago, You did awesome deeds beyond our highest expectations.  And oh, how the mountains quaked!
For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like You, who works for those who wait for Him!

How thankful I am to serve a God like Jehovah!  There is no other like Him!  In our moments of deepest desperation, don’t we, as Isaiah did, wish that He would burst from the heavens and come down?  As we seek Him, and grow closer to Him, learning more and more about who He is, don’t we long for His mighty presence to come down and set right all that has gone SO wrong in this world?

We study His wonderful Word and learn of how He has worked through the whole of time, moving mountains for His people and providing rescue beyond their highest expectations.  Think of Joshua and the people of Israel as they marched around the walls of Jericho.  Who among them would have imagined those thick, impenetrable walls crumbling to the ground at the sound of their battle cry?  Think of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego as they stood in the shadow of that blazing furnace, refusing to bend a knee in worship of anyone but the High King of Heaven.  Who would have even suggested that they would, not only survive that fire, but that Jesus Himself would join them in the flames, and that the event would be used to bring the King of Babylon into reverent submission to the Lord God Almighty? How we crave those miracles in our own lives.  How we long to see the mountains in our lives quake before Him!

But here’s the thing, my friends.  He has, already come down!  He has already provided rescue beyond our wildest dreams.   He died in our place and offers us right standing before the throne of God! We will spend all of eternity in His glorious presence, and He will wipe every tear from our eyes.  Not only that, but as we live out our days on this miserable planet, patiently waiting for that wonderful day, He has taken up residence in our hearts and PROMISES to never, EVER leave us or forsake us!  Oh, what a treasure beyond our highest expectations the Holy Spirit is!  Let us never take it for granted!  Let’s remember, since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like our God, who works for those who wait for Him!
