September 17 – Psalm 16

Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge.
I said to the Lord, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.”
The godly people in the land are my true heroes!  I take pleasure in them!
Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods.
I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood or even speak the names of their gods.

Lord, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing.  You guard all that is mine.
The land you have given me is a pleasant land.  What a wonderful inheritance!

I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me.
I know the Lord is always with me.  I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice.  My body rests in safety.
For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.
You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever.

Where do we turn when we need protection?  There is only one true refuge – The Rock of ages. He is our Hiding Place, a Shelter in the time of storm. Is there something in your life today that is causing you to fear?  There are many things in this world that are frightening,  an uncertain future being one that many of us are dealing with right now.  Let’s call out to the Lord together, “Keep me safe, Oh God!”

Next, let’s look at who we’ve gathered around us.  Are the people in our lives godly?  Or are they people who chase after other gods?  Godly people will bring pleasure because they will always point us back toward God.  Find them. Surround yourself with them, seek their council and comfort.  Those who seek other gods will cause our troubles to multiply.  Don’t allow yourself to be drawn into their evil practices.  Refuse to have anything to do with something that will displease God.  Let’s remember that we should never sacrifice eternal rewards for temporal pleasures – God is our inheritance.

Let’s seek Him today and remember, as the psalmist said that He is always right beside us, always guiding us.  Even at night He instructs us, so we can rest in security. He guards all that is ours.  He is our Strong Tower, our Mighty Fortress.  We are His dearly loved daughters and we will live with Him forever!  There is nothing in this world that can take that away from us.  It is secure.  What do we have to fear?  Let’s hide ourselves in Him today and let Him cover us with His hand.  You are safe dear sister!
