This Day in History: 0000-08-10

August 10 – Titus 3: 3-7

Once, we too were foolish and disobedient.
We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures.
Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other.

But –
When God our Savior revealed His kindness and love, He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.
He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.
He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.
Because of His grace He made us right in His sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.

But God. Amen? That is the tagline for the life of every believer. Once we were… fill in the blank with every disgusting, despicable, deplorable sin you can think of. Every filthy word there is. That is what we were.

  • Lost.
  • Slaves to sin.
  • Hopeless.
  • Helpless.

BUT GOD!!!!!!

  • But God found us.
  • But God set us free.
  • But God gave us a future and a hope.
  • But God Saved us!

Not because we deserved it. Not because we earned it. Not because of anything BUT GOD!

Because of His great mercy, because of His grace, because He is kind and compassionate and we are precious to Him.

Because of these things, He washed us clean. Every sin and every wretched name that defined us has been swept away in the water of His cleansing. He wrote a new name on us. His name. He made us completely new and gave us His own Spirit to guide us! He made us forever right in His sight so that we can know – with complete confidence – that one day we will stand before Him in heaven and be welcomed into eternal life with Him.

Oh what a treasure!

Once, we were headed for destruction. But God!
