This Day in History: 0000-07-30
July 30 – 2 Timothy 1:10–12
And now He has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News. And God chose me to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Good News. That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the One in whom I trust, and I am sure that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until the day of His return.
Do you struggle with worry? Many of us do, and it paralyzes us from living up to our callings in Christ. When we worry, what we’re really saying is that we don’t trust God. Either we don’t believe He will do what He has said He will do, or we don’t believe He can do it. Either way, that unbelief falls under the category: sin. If we understand God’s work and His plan, though, we can silence the worries and live an unashamed life. We are called to know the One in whom we trust and to have confidence in Him!
Do we know Him? He has revealed Himself to us plainly through the Bible, so if we don’t know Him, all we need to do is pick it up and start reading. We’ll learn He is the Creator of heaven and earth. We’ll learn He is perfect and holy, and that our sin makes it impossible for us to have a relationship with Him. We’ll learn that in order to restore us to Himself, Jesus Christ came to earth and lived a sinless life which He then sacrificed for us. He died in our place to set us free from the condemning power of sin. But He has also promised to one day come back and bring us to the place where He is, to live with Him forever. Do we believe that friends? Do we have confidence in it?
Whoever you are, you have been uniquely gifted in some way by the One who formed you. He has called you to something specific. Something that will bring glory to His Great Name. He could have chosen anyone for the task, but He chose you! Are you living out that call?
Let’s choose today to live our lives with courage and confidence. Unashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ because we KNOW the One in whom we’ve believed! We know who He is. We know what He’s done. And we are SURE that He is able to keep us safe in His care, guarding all that we’ve entrusted to Him until the day of His return. The day when He will finish His sanctifying work in our lives and make us perfect. Completely free from sin and death forever and ever!
