This Day in History: 0000-07-29

July 29 – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

If you’re in the middle of a dark phase in life, it’s likely that you’ve isolated yourself. For some reason, it’s what we tend to do when we’re down. I do, at least. But this passage points out how important friendship is. We need each other!

I’ve been blessed by many dear and true friendships throughout my life, but something that has been overwhelmingly encouraging to me since I started this blogging journey is the “virtual friendships” God has gifted me. There are some things we face that the flesh and blood people in our lives may not understand. We are so fortunate to live in a time when there are so many resources at our fingertips to bridge this gap!

What heavy issue are you dealing with today? Do you feel like there is no one in your life that understands? I encourage you to find an online community to help you. Please make sure that it is a community that honors God – you want to be sure that the cords of friendships you make include that third strand! (The strand that ensures it will not be easily broken!)

We are members of a huge family! From all over the world we are united together as children of the living God, so let’s link arms! Let’s help each other succeed. Let’s pick each other up, and keep each other warm. Let’s stand back to back, poised for battle. Together, we can surly conquer anything! With the Lord’s help, we will never be broken!
