July 24 – Colossians 3:1-5

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all His glory.
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you.

It says, “When Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in His glory.” Can we honestly say that Christ is our life? Our WHOLE life? It’s the only position in which He belongs! He needs to be our whole life, friends. After all, the Bible tells us it is through Him everything is held together. Any life we have is only a result of Him. We just have to find a way to get that truth to penetrate our hearts and minds and really sink in and take hold.

If we’re wondering how to do that, I think this passage sums it up pretty well. We need to set our sights on the realities of heaven. The realities of heaven. Isn’t that difficult to do? Maybe I’m alone, but I think it’s really tough to set my sights on the realities of something that I don’t really understand. Something I haven’t yet experienced.

Yet, it is what we’ve been commanded to do, and God assures us in Jeremiah that He would not tell us to seek Him if He couldn’t be found. So let’s do our best to re-focus our thoughts on the eternal. If we find ourselves worrying about something temporal, let’s stop, turn, and ask our Lord to give us eyes to see life from His perspective. Let’s put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within us, and think about the things of heaven. Let’s look forward to the day when we will share in all the glory of Jesus Christ, who sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. For, as His people, He is our life!
