This Day in History: 0000-07-07
July 7 – Isaiah 46:8-10
Do not forget this! Keep it in mind! Remember this, you guilty ones.
Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God!
I am God, and there is none like Me. Only I can tell you the future before it even happens.
Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.
Let us never be tempted to believe that anyone is getting away with disobedience to God! Not us, not those we love, not those who hurt or persecute us, not anyone. It’s so easy to get caught up in the reality that seems to be right before our eyes. A reality that often suggests there are many getting away with godless, sinful living. But it is an illusion!
This is one of many reasons it’s so important we read the whole Bible. It helps us to remember the things our God has done in the past. We get the benefit of looking at whole, finished stories. No doubt many of those people felt like evil was winning. For crying out loud, you don’t have to get very far into the Psalms to find they for sure felt that way. David spent years, YEARS exiled from his home in Israel. He had already been anointed as the next King and yet for many years it was really hard to see how that promise would ever be fulfilled. It really, really seemed like King Saul was getting away with disobedience to God! But in time, God’s justice came through. Saul was defeated, the throne stripped from his family and given to none other than David himself. The future unfolded just as God had promised it would years before it came to pass.
Friends, this same God who came through on His promises to so many from Genesis through Revelation has made a multitude of promises to you and me. We can rest assured every single one of them will come to pass, for our God does whatever He wishes and the Bible tells us plainly again and again what He wishes.
So let’s dig into the Bible and find those promises. Let’s believe them. Let’s never be fooled by what seems to be happening in the world around us, but keep our gaze firmly set upon the One who holds our future. We are His own precious children, and He. Is. Faithful!
