May 12 – Deuteronomy 4:9 & Proverbs 22:6

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.

Living a life that reflects Christ’s work in our lives – it is the highest calling of every believer, and certainly the very essence of motherhood! Happy Mother’s Day! Though I know we’re not all mothers, I am certain we all have opportunities to live these verses in a very practical way.

Are we doing it? Are we watching ourselves closely so that we don’t forget the things we’ve seen God do in our own lives, and in the world all around us? Are we being careful to spend time in the Word each and every day so that the mighty works of our Lord throughout time remain fresh in our minds and in our hearts? Are we teaching our children, not just in word, but through the way we live that our God is faithful? That He is trustworthy? That He is good, and true, and lovely? Do they know of God’s great love for them?

My friends, there is nothing more certain to a victorious life than to understand our identity in Christ. Do we know, way down deep where it really matters, that we are His, and that we are precious to Him? Are we raising our children to identify as the deeply loved children of the Most High God? The earlier they understand who they are, the easier it will be for them to navigate this treacherous life with confidence! May we be mothers who give them the gift of truth! May they live their whole lives, anchored in it!
