This Day in History: 0000-05-01

May 1 – Zechariah 1:3-6

Therefore, say to the people, “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Return to Me and I will return to you, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.” Don’t be like your ancestors who would not listen or pay attention when the earlier prophets said to them, “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Turn from your evil ways and stop all your evil practices.” Where are your ancestors now? They and the prophets are long dead. But everything I said through my servants the prophets happened to your ancestors, just as I said. As a result, they repented and said, ‘We have received what we deserved from the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. He has done what He said He would do.”

Scripture is absolutely full of pleas from God to people, asking them to repent, begging them to turn from their wickedness and run back to Him. From Genesis to Revelation we see His message repeated again and again

“Return to Me and I will return to you,

“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”

“Turn from all your evil ways.”

“Come back to Me, and I will heal you.”

Surely this should be the cry of our hearts as well! God doesn’t tell people to waste time trying to figure out who “can” and “cannot” be saved. It’s simply not for us to know. The chosen of God, are the chosen of God, but we won’t know who those people are until we get to heaven and look around, so let’s not waste a single second of this life believing it’s any of our business.

The thing is, God DOES know who belongs to Him and who doesn’t, and yet He continues to plead with EVERYONE. He continues to invite those He knows will never come. Why would we ever think He expects anything less from us?

My friends, if you find yourself under the influence of one who is tempting you to believe you may not “be able” to be saved, RUN! Get away from that person’s poisonous influence. That is not a message you will find God delivering in Scripture. You will only find Him inviting you to come. Inviting you to repent. Inviting you to turn your life over to Him and leave your future in His sovereign, all powerful hands. Once you are His, you will only find Him asking you to do the same for others.

We do not serve a God of chaos or confusion.

The invitation has been made. God has invited You. If you feel a pull on your heart, respond! Turn to Him, my friend, and He WILL turn to you!
