This Day in History: 0000-04-03
April 3 – Hebrews 13:14-16
For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to His name. And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.
Isn’t it so easy to forget that this world is not our home? It’s all we’ve ever known. It’s our reality and it’s difficult to keep our hearts set upon a place we’ve never seen. But it’s true. We don’t belong to this world anymore. We are the children of the High King of Heaven, and our home is there, in His Kingdom, with Him. When our focus is right we will be looking forward to that day when He will call us home to Himself and wipe away all our tears and make us perfect. We will be looking forward to our everlasting home in that place that He is preparing just for us. Let that sink in for a minute. As His own special treasure, He is preparing a place for us. A permanent home in Heaven designed precisely for each and every one of us! Do we take the time to thank Him for that often enough? I know I don’t. I rarely think about it, if I’m honest. But I should. We should. Let’s do that right now!
“Heavenly Father, we are in awe of You God! Forgive us for our lack of perspective. Help us to look forward with eager anticipation to our forever-home in Heaven with You! Thank-you so much for loving us so much that You are preparing a place for each of us. Your tender care is beyond anything we can even understand! We are so unworthy, yet so thankful for Your love. We are Yours forever God. We will follow You and worship You today and tomorrow and forever. Help us to remember Your countless blessings and to share with those we meet. Make us quick to recognize when we have the very thing that could strengthen, or encourage, or bless another and help us to be ready to give it freely – knowing it is all a gift from You in the first place. Whether it be our time, our money, our stuff, our words, our talents, our friendship, or our love, may we use it all for Your glory. And may You be pleased as we obey, Lord. We love you. In Jesus’s Name, amen.”
