This Day in History: 0000-03-22

March 22 – Psalms 34:8-10

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him!
Fear the Lord, you His godly people, for those who fear Him will have all they need.
Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry,
but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.

The LORD IS GOOD. Do we believe it? It is the truth, but most of us find it a little difficult to believe at one time or another. And yet, finding the faith to really truly trust it is the beginning of a life worth living! True joy is found under the shelter of His care.

We can deny His goodness. We can fight with Him and demand to be the ones who get to define Him according to our own standards, rather than allowing ourselves to be defined by His. It is a choice we have been freely given, and most of us will spend at least part of our lives exercising that freedom. But oh the misery we will find there! It is a life of want. Filled with emptiness and despair.

On the other hand, accepting the goodness of God, and living with a holy fear and awe of Him brings us the fulfillment of every need.

Of course, our definition of “need” is redefined when we take up refuge in Him! The “good things” we find there may not be what we were expecting. We may go in looking for superficial prosperity, an easy life, or the love of people. But what we will find instead is the ability to give love, to find joy and peace, to be patient and kind, good and faithful, gentle and self-controlled. We’ll find wisdom, understanding, hope and victory!

Most of all, we’ll find the confidence to know, no matter what comes our way, that our God is good, and as we take refuge in Him we will lack NO GOOD THING!
