This Day in History: 0000-02-14

February 14 – Isaiah 46: 3-4

I have cared for you since you were born. Yes, I carried you before you were born. I will be your God throughout your lifetime – until your hair is white with age.
I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.

Aren’t these verses just beautiful?  There are two very distinct images that come to mind as I read them: A mother with her child, and an elderly couple walking hand in hand. Two images that communicate tender, intimate, loving care. Yet neither of those images even come close to an adequate representation of our Father’s loving care for us!  On this day when the world celebrates love, let’s celebrate how precious we are to Him!

For even more than a mother feels a profound connection to her child as he leaps within her womb, or carries an in-depth understanding of the baby she has nurtured and cared for from birth, our Lord is deeply connected to us and familiar with every fiber of our being.  He didn’t just carry us before we were born, He knit us together! He knew how every second of our life would unfold before even a single cell of our bodies had yet been formed! And He promises to be with us through each and every one!

Likewise, even more than a man and woman are united as one in the bonds of matrimony, our great God has joined Himself to us, taking up residence in our hearts. He has promised to stay there always, uniting Himself to us for as long as we live. As He celebrates each victory by our side, and tenderly cares for us through every trial, the intimacy we share will only grow deeper and richer with each passing day.

Precious friends, He made us, He cares for us, and He will carry us along until we pass through death’s door. For even then, we are His very own DEARLY loved children, and because of His deep love He has given Himself and saved us!  No matter what else is happening in your life today, rest in the knowledge that you are deeply, passionately, intimately, fiercely loved!
