John 16: 13-15 – When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring Me glory by telling you whatever He receives from Me. All that belongs to the Father is Mine; this is why I said, “The Spirit will tell you whatever He receives from Me.”
Let’s wrap up our discussion on the Word of God with this important look at the One who brings those words from God to us. He is the Holy Spirit of the Living God, and He cannot be separated from Scripture .
As we saw in the verses from the past three days, it was through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that the men who wrote the Bible received the words of God, which they then wrote down, and which God has since preserved for us. But the Spirit does so much more than that.
All of us, all believers, have been given the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us He has made His home in our hearts and He guides us (or leads us) to truth. In other words, He uses the living and powerful words of Scripture to teach us what we each need to know. He impresses what God wants to tell us on a personal level upon our hearts through the Word of God.
Not only that, but in Romans 8:26 the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit also communicates back to God for us. When we pray, He intercedes for us and tells the Father what we need.
So what all this means is that along with our salvation, we have each been given some precious and priceless gifts. These gifts provide us with everything we need to live godly lives. God, out of the abundance of His great love for us, has given us the Bible. It is a book filled with His own words to us. It is a book that is living, active, and powerful, that will tell us everything we ever need to know to be able to live in line with God’s will. And to ensure that we would be able to understand that book and to then be able to communicate with Him, He filled each and every one of us who believe with His Spirit of Truth. That Spirit who speaks to us and for us.
What difficult situation, what stress-filled decision has you feeling lost or unsure of yourself or of the future today? Let’s place each and every one in the hands of our Great God right now. Let’s look to the Word for our answers and let’s ask the Spirit of Truth to show us the way.
