November 7 – Psalms 30:8-12
I cried out to You, oh Lord. I begged the Lord for mercy, saying, “What will You gain if I die, if I sink into the grave? Can my dust praise You? Can it tell of Your faithfulness? Hear me, Lord, and have mercy on me. Help me, oh Lord.”
You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to You and not be silent. Oh Lord my God, I will give You thanks forever!
Is there air in your lungs today? Did you get out of bed this morning with a beating heart and a functioning brain? If so, my friend, then your purpose today is simple: You are here to bring glory to the name of the Lord God Almighty!
What a high calling!
There are going to be seasons that drag us down. That’s part of life. In those times, may this beautiful Psalm inspire us to call out to God. To remind Him (and really ourselves) that we are here for His glory. To remember that we only get this one chance to live out our purpose. Once this life ends, so does our opportunity to spread His fame. Our opportunity to offer to others the hope that we have found in Him.
God is good and He is faithful. If we will only remember His goodness, take notice of His faithfulness, the joy of the Lord will spill out of us, and we will share His mercies with those around us.
So let’s take a little time right now to offer up our thanksgiving. Let’s do our best to make a habit of this, not just during the month of November, but all year. As we do, may He be faithful to clothe us with the joyful garments of His dearly loved children, that we might sing His praises and not be silent. May we give Him thanks forever that His mighty name will be glorified every day of our lives!
