This Day in History: 0000-01-24
January 24 – Amos 3: 3-8
Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?
Does a lion ever roar in a thicket without first finding a victim?
Does a young lion growl in its den without first catching its prey?
Does a bird ever get caught in a trap that has no bait?
Does a trap spring shut when there’s nothing to catch?
When the ram’s horn blows a warning, shouldn’t the people be alarmed?
Does disaster come to a city unless the Lord has planned it?
Indeed, the Sovereign Lord never does anything until He reveals His plans to His servants the prophets.
The Lion has roared – so who isn’t frightened?
The Sovereign Lord has spoken – so who can refuse to proclaim His message?
Are we proclaiming the gospel message with urgency? Or, in the business of life, have we forgotten that the Sovereign Lord has spoken? Isn’t it so easy to forget the message of Scripture?
The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ came to seek and to save those who were lost. It tells us that there is no one who is righteous; that the wages of sin, is death, but that the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. It tells us that there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. It tells us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, and that He rose again on the third day, conquering sin and death forever. It tells us that He will come again and judge the world. It tells us that He will separate the lost from the children of God and that the lost will be cast forever into hell. And here’s the big one – It asks, how will anyone know all this unless they are told, and how will anyone be told unless someone tells them?
When the ram’s horn blows a warning, shouldn’t the people be alarmed? The Sovereign Lord has spoken! Who can refuse to proclaim His message? Through the prophets, we have been given the Holy Bible, the inspired Word of God, and it is our duty to herald its message with urgency! Let’s take very seriously the fact that the Lion has roared! Let’s be frightened. Let’s declare the news far and wide that Jesus saves before it’s too late!
