This Day in History: 0000-01-10
January 10 – Hebrews 11 ( Part 1 )
Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.
Hebrews 11 – The Faith Hall of Fame. A chapter filled with example after example of men and women throughout history who believed God. Men and women who obeyed God. Men and women with faith! Could we add our names and our stories to theirs? Are we people of faith? Do we have the assurance that the God who made the whole universe from nothing has the power to make something good from our “nothing?” Do we have confidence that the hope we have in Him will bring about results? That’s what faith is.
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.
What is threatening your faith today? I don’t know about you, but there have been a number of times in my life when the difficult circumstances crashing in on me caused my faith to waiver. When I took my eyes of my Savior for just a moment and looked at the waves all around me, just like Peter on the Sea of Galilee. But each time my faith was restored because, like these verses promise, God rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
Does your faith need a little help today? Let’s remember that without faith, it is impossible to please God, and let’s allow that knowledge to deepen our longing for Him. Let’s renew our faith by believing again that God exists and asking Him to reward us as we earnestly seek Him!
To be continued…
